Effect of trauma simulation program on medical students’ performance

Abstract

|
Background: Since fast and structured management has an important impact on patients’ outcome. We evaluated the effect of Advanced Trauma Life Support based trauma simulation education program on medical students’ performance in simulated trauma patient management.
Methods: An observational study on medical students was done at Medical School of ------------ National University 75 students, divided into 35 teams, completed the program. All students in team took a performance-based assessment in three categories using checklist rating before the program and a week after completion of the program.
Results: In performancebased assessment, the students performed better in the checklist rating (p=0.001, 95% CI 18.915-25.142).
Conclusions: ATLS based trauma simulation education program offers enhancement of medical students’ performance in simulated trauma patient management.
